Never slow in adopting the latest technology, Mesh's latest addition to its Matrix product line uses the new version of the AMD Athlon 64 processor; the 3400+.
Housed in the now-familiar black Mesh case, the Matrix 64 3400+ is laden with goodies and offers a fair bit of future-proofing into the bargain, especially as 64-bit software and games are in their early days.
The Athlon 64 3400+ processor is rated at 2.2GHz, has 1MB of Level 2 cache and an 800MHz FSB. It is compatible with both 64-bit and 32-bit applications, which is handy as 64-bit apps are noticeable by their absence.
Backing up the CPU is 1GB of PC3200 (DDR 400MHz) memory in the form of two 512MB modules. The motherboard can support a maximum of 3GB in three DIMM slots, so there's no lack of performance available from this PC.
On opening the tool-free side panel, the internals are neat and tidy with pride of place going to the Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard which, with all the data and power cables neatly clipped out of the way, is easy to get to. With NVIDIA's recent SLI launch, the graphics market is buzzing with excitement. Even though only some of the latest games really take advantage of the dual 3D capabilities now, the option of using two graphics cards at once offers both new upgrade paths and a nice way of improving the visual experience.

Until now, only Athlon64 motherboards (Socket 939) based on NVIDIA's new nForce4 SLI chipset or the K8T890 Pro from VIA have been capable of operating two graphics cards. In Intel's 900 series chipset world, SLI still has not been a factor. Since we have already proven that dual PCI Express graphics does not necessarily require wide PCIe links , solutions based on narrower PCIe links were only a matter of time.

Intel’s Latest Gaming Platform - Skulltrail

The guys over at HotHardware have managed to get a sneak peak at Intel’s new gaming platform, Skulltrail

Skulltrail is built around server class hardware, that has been reconfigured for the gaming market.

The new motherboard featured in the pictures will support dual quad core Penryn Xeon processors, SLI, and has four PCIe slots.
It also features six USB ports, six SATA ports, dual eSata ports, Firewire and Gigabit Ethernet
.
From the looks of the specs this is going to be an amazing platform to build some serious gaming PC’s on and I suspect this isn’t going to be cheap either.

Diefferent from CDRinfo.com, [Sg.vr-zone.com]'s review puts more attention on details of the motherboard, e.g. the storage and sound, accessories and etc. [Sg.vr-zone.com] A glimpse of what can be found on the bottom right corner of the mainboard. As you can see in the picture above, there is only 3 ports available to the ICH7R Controller, with one port being replicated to two via the Silicon Image 4732 Steelvine Storage Processor, which is a pure hardware RAID implementation that will not take up additional CPU resources. Asus' has modified the BIOS of the Steelvine as such that users can only run RAID 0 or 1 on it via jumpers on top of the ICH7R SATA ports as pictured above. I've been 'smacked over' by Intel's latest Extreme Hardware!

Intel 'Santa Rosa' blooms into Centrino Duo, Pro

Intel has launched 'Santa Rosa', the latest generation of its Centrino laptop platform. This time round, the brand is being segmented: Centrino Pro for big business, Centrino Duo for the rest of us.

Duo is the baseline. It's based around revised versions of the mobile Core 2 Duo processors Intel launched in autumn 2006, along with laptop-friendly incarnations of the 965 desktop chipset brought to market almost a year ago. The key chipset, the 965GM, brings Intel's latest integrated graphics core, the GMA X3000, to Centrino for a smoother Windows Vista experience and better-looking movie playback.

EVGA's New Flagship X58 Platform Previewed

EVGA, having launched its X58 3X SLI motherboard which received raving reviews for its features, performance and price-point, looks to up the ante with a new flagship motherboard based on the Intel X58 platform for the Core i7 processors. While X58 motherboards start at the US $200 point, over a period, there has been a faint seggregation of the motherboards based on the prices and features, starting with a $200~240 range sans SLI support, $250~300 with SLI and >$300 enthusiast-grade range. EVGA's upcoming motherboard fits into the top-range of motherboards, which finds competition in the likes of ASUS Rampage II Extreme and MSI X58 Eclipse Plus. VR-Zone conducted a detailed preview of this upcoming motherboard dubbed "X58 SLI Classified", with "classified" meaning that its brand name is yet to be announced. Looking at the way EVGA has been branding its flagship motherboards in the past, it could be safe to speculate it that it could be something along the lines of "FTW".
