Mesh Computers - Matrix 64 3400+ review

Never slow in adopting the latest technology, Mesh's latest addition to its Matrix product line uses the new version of the AMD Athlon 64 processor; the 3400+.
Housed in the now-familiar black Mesh case, the Matrix 64 3400+ is laden with goodies and offers a fair bit of future-proofing into the bargain, especially as 64-bit software and games are in their early days.
The Athlon 64 3400+ processor is rated at 2.2GHz, has 1MB of Level 2 cache and an 800MHz FSB. It is compatible with both 64-bit and 32-bit applications, which is handy as 64-bit apps are noticeable by their absence.
Backing up the CPU is 1GB of PC3200 (DDR 400MHz) memory in the form of two 512MB modules. The motherboard can support a maximum of 3GB in three DIMM slots, so there's no lack of performance available from this PC.
On opening the tool-free side panel, the internals are neat and tidy with pride of place going to the Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard which, with all the data and power cables neatly clipped out of the way, is easy to get to. The K8V uses one of the fastest chipsets around for the Athlon 64, the VIA K8T800, and this is combined with a VIA VT8237 Southbridge.

Gigabyte Creates a 915P Motherboard With SLI : Gigabyte Creates A 915P Motherboard With SLI

With NVIDIA's recent SLI launch, the graphics market is buzzing with excitement. Even though only some of the latest games really take advantage of the dual 3D capabilities now, the option of using two graphics cards at once offers both new upgrade paths and a nice way of improving the visual experience.

Until now, only Athlon64 motherboards (Socket 939) based on NVIDIA's new
nForce4 SLI chipset or the K8T890 Pro from VIA have been capable of operating two graphics cards. In Intel's 900 series chipset world, SLI still has not been a factor. Since we have already proven that dual PCI Express graphics does not necessarily require wide PCIe links , solutions based on narrower PCIe links were only a matter of time.

Here’s something gamers wants

Nviida has combined four GeForce 7900 graphics processing units on an nForce4 SLI motherboard to produce Quad SLI technology for PCs.
Nvidia says the graphics horsepower generated in a PC using Quad SLI technology allows gamers to set their monitors to extreme HD resolutions, including 2560×1600.

ECS PN2 SLI2+ nVIDIA nForce 680i SLi Motherboard

Let's be frank. The question isn't whether AMD or Intel are leading the charge, it's nVIDIA. For the last couple of years anyway, the graphics boys in Santa Carla have shown the PC world how to make a good chipset and a feature packed motherboard. For end users like you and me, well, we've been treated to features that at one time were solely left for the workstation and server markets.
The pace of change has certainly been frantic, thanks in great spades to Intel's Core 2 Duo processor. AMD started off with a great 64-bit bang, but Socket 775 is where all the action is now. The flagship nVidia nForce 680i chipset extends the performance and feature lead over Intel's best core logic, right where the nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition left off.

NVIDIA nForce4

For this preview NVIDIA sent us a nForce 4 Ultra reference motherboard. We also found a MSI nForce4 Ultra motherboard.

Unfortunately, it’s still in A0 revision (two revisions away from the release because MSI usually continues directly with the B0) and wasn’t stable enough to produce reliable results. We compared the reference nForce4 NVIDIA motherboard to a nForce3 MSI K8N Neo2 and a MSI K8T Neo2 for the VIA K8T800 Pro motherboard.

Gigabyte GA-EP45T-EXTREME P45 Motherboard

There are two kinds of computer enthusiasts in this world: those with a personal connection to the system motherboard, and those who simply refer to the part as a computer mainboard. For overclockers, the relationship with a well-designed motherboard can mean love or hate, and no two parts are alike. The motherboard is, after all, the foundation of every computer, and the importance is central to stable system operation. No matter if you are a low-demand office worker who plugs away on letters or spreadsheets every day or if you are a high-performance hardware enthusiast who demands extreme frame rates from your video games, one component alone will determine your ability: the motherboard. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests the Gigabyte GA-EP45T-EXTREME P45 Ultra-Durable 2 DES motherboard against our harsh overclocking demands.

ASUS P5E64 WS Pro X38 Motherboard

As predicted for this year, the dizzying high prices of DDR3 have finally dropped to within reason- even edging into that of DDR2's price point. The reason for such drastic price drops is that chip makers like Micron, Samsung, Hynix, and Qimonda are currently in full swing mass production of DDR3 DRAM - increasing supply and beating demand. This excess in inventory of DDR3 means a steady supply affordable and readily available chips that have helped to spur such rapid market adoption, evident with over fifty different motherboards currently on the market that support this memory standard.

Further DDR3 price drops are expected to continue into the fourth quarter and means many will be looking for quality motherboards suitable for
high-speed DDR3. That being the case Benchmark Reviews thought it would be of interest to examine one of the more mature DDR3 based motherboard offerings on the market today; the ASUS P5E64 WS Professional Motherboard based on Intel's 3 series X38 Express Chipset with support for unheard of "Quad" graphics.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P DDR2 P45 Motherboard

There are certain products in every category that somehow manage to attain legendary, if not mythical stature. In the Intel socket based motherboard world that status is frequently obtained not by feature count, not by component selection, not by build quality, but by an ethereal capability to do one thing well: overclock the pins off the latest generation of Intel CPU. The fact that this capability is inextricably linked to the skill of the person tweaking the BIOS, and in many cases is difficult to repeat, only seems to add to the legend. Just as it is impossible to predict which aspiring new actor or actress will become the new darling of the Hollywood glitterati, there is an element of chance as to which motherboard among the many on offer will grab the brass ring. GIGABYTE Technologies Inc. offers 24 version of P45 based Socket 775 motherboards, yet one of them is a diva of the overclocking community. Benchmark Reviews is pleased to bring you our findings on the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard.

ASRock AOD790GX/128M AM2+ Motherboard

Everybody knows that if you're number 2, you try harder, What if you're number 3 or 4, what do you do then? You look for Golden Opportunities to prove that you have first class products. ASRock did just that during the rise of the Core2Duo era, when overclocking nearly became a household word. ASRock built a stellar reputation with LGA775 motherboards that survived (and thrived) at the high Front Side Bus clock speeds that were required to get those Intel CPUs singing soprano. ASRock now has a new opportunity for market expansion, with the release of the AMD Phenom II CPUs; they once again have a chance to show the world that their products are second to none for supporting the latest and greatest CPUs, with an eye towards the enthusiast market.

Nvidia's GeForce 7900 GS graphics card

AH, AUTUMN. Temperatures start to drop, students head back to school, the leaves begin to turn colors, and video card prices fall all around us. The autumn round of price cuts has become a happy tradition in PC graphics, a time when previously expensive video cards shed their high-priced summer attire and slip on their festive holiday-season price tags.

We've already seen ATI make its first moves in this seasonal ritual, lifting the curtains on the
Radeon X1950 XTX and its more affordable cousin, the Radeon X1900 XT 256MB. Now it's Nvidia's turn to respond with a new GeForce that knows one very cool trick: how to perform like a $300 card while selling for about two hundred bucks. This new GeForce 7900 GS will make your phosphor glow in successive colors almost as rapidly as the GeForce 7900 GT, but it runs quieter and costs less. This isn't exactly a revolutionary upsurge in graphics power, but it's better than burning your hand on a Pentium 4.

A couple flavors of GS

We already have a couple of flavors of the GeForce 7900 GS on hand here in Damage Labs. First to arrive was a pair of XFX cards suited up in a suave green-and-black color scheme.
